"Guess The Blog URL" Contest (Let's Eat!)

If two's a party, then three's a crowd. ("!)

No popiah & kueh pie tee, so we had dimsum & milktea. ^_^

The winner, Jie Yi, and her companion, SiYing. (",)

Name? I dunch wanna tell u. >_<

Really literally, "DINOSAUR"! =O

Let's tuck in!! (".)

Date: 28 Dec 2010, Tuesday
Time: 12noon - 3pm

It was first meant to be chicky wings @ Ikea Tampines, then I decided that a popiah & kueh pie tee DIY experience would be more appropriate for the kiddos.

However when we discovered that the kopitiam only has dine-in on weekends, we eventually ended up in Old Hong Kong Tea House along East Coast Road, by a stroke of fate. (",)

This is one of my many favouriate dining haunts which I discovered in 2006. Such quaint and relatively undiscovered place is a rare gem in our highly-urbanised Singapore.

It is difficult to miss this old colonial building fronting the quiet enclave of Katong Village if u are travelling along East Coast Road (not the service road along East Coast Park). It was once the old Joo Chiat Police Station whose heyday was back in the 1970's.

Jie Yi was apparently not quite impressed with its old exterior at first, but only to be pleasantly surprised by its dazzling menu. =D

I ordered my usual curry-flavoured fried beehoon and HK milktea. Jie Yi ordered the cheesy noodles with pork chop while SiYing ordered the Yangzhou fried rice. Both of them were so hungry that they also had the Dinosaurs. We ordered the fried carrot cake with XO sauce, siew mai and the steamed pork soup dumpling for the sides.

Jie Yi wanted to order the fried popiah but I was against it as I suspected that we would not be able to finish the food. In the end, SiYing could not finish her rice and her share of the carrot cake and soup dumpling. Jie Yi & I became the garbage trucks then... ("!)

If u love food, u will love this place. =)

This brings to a close the "Guess The Blog URL" Contest. Be sure to post your entry in the "Match The Teachers" Contest! (",)

"Guess The Blog URL" Contest (Results)

The answer is popiah n kueh pie tee. Isn't it really easy? (",)

Alright, the truth is out! ^_^

Popiah n Kueh Pie Tee, that is! >_<

These two items are chosen firstly because they comprise of one common ingredient, the steamed/stir-fried turnip. It's the main character in both delicacies. Be careful not to add too much of the gravy into the kueh pie tee cup lest it soaks up the moisture and loses its crispiness. =)

Secondly, though they are not rythmic words, these two terms seem to ryhme. Read that aloud a few times and u may get what I mean. Popiah n kueh pie tee... Popiah n kueh pie tee... (".)

Thirdly, and obviously, I like both of them! I always see them at buffets and usually we got to DIY. I can't make nice kueh pie tees coz the amount of ingredients is either unproportionate, or that the crisp cup got too wet. If properly done, it can be incredibly crunchy. =D

Jie Yi mentioned that she liked kueh pie tee when I got her to do the ordering of BBQ food in school that day. Though it was a casual remark from her, I remember that! =D I bet OZH didn't hear that, coz I could tell he was not keen in the ordering of food as he was not joining us at the chalet. He started playing with JY's iPhone halfway through. I should have sent him home then. Hahaha..

I already had this URL in mind but was not confirmed until JY's remark. (",)

Here we have it! Presenting the first three respondents and the winner!

1) Jie Yi - 2 Dec @ 6.50pm (Winner)
2) Fion - 5 Dec @ 1.04pm
3) Jun Xian - 7 Dec @ 6.42pm

Jie Yi was told not to reveal the answer after she had found the URL. Didn't anyone notice that she was very quiet when SY, VT, DT and HT bombarded Mr Justin & I over the URL? >_<

Poor gal, had to hold on to this secret for so long... =(

P.S. Since Cai Xuan found out the URL from Fion (instead of figuring it out himself), his name is not included in the list above.

Popiah (a.k.a. Spring roll)
This Chinese-style spring rolls are called “Popiah” in the Hokkien dialect.

A popiah “skin” is a soft, thin paper-like crepe or pancake made from flour which is coated with a sweet sauce, and optionally with hot chilli sauce before it is filled.

The filling is mainly finely grated and steamed or stir-fried turnip or jicama (known locally as bangkuang), which has been cooked with a combination of other ingredients such as bean sprouts, French beans, and lettuce leaves, along with grated carrots, slices of Chinese sausage, thinly sliced fried toufu, chopped peanuts or peanut powder and shredded omelette. As a fresh spring roll, the popiah skin itself is not fried.

Kueh Pie Tee
A classic nonya favourite consisting of a crisp shell filled with turnip and often topped with egg strips, prawns, sprigs of parsley and chilli sauce.

My New Toy! ^_^

iPhone4 32gb

People who know me, know that I don't buy things on impulse. In other words, it's difficult for any merchants to earn my money. Hahah.. >_<

I am not stingy, I am merely being thrifty. (".) My mobile contract with SingTel expired in Feb this year. However, it was after more than half a year of contemplation that I finally bought the iPhone4 @ SingTel hello! Shop @ Compass Point this afternoon. ^_^

32gb costs $310, while the 16gb costs $160, both after a $50 SingTel customer retention discount. I opted for the former somehow, though I think the latter is more than enough.

The iFlexi Value plan costs $56 monthly, but with the MOE corporate plan, I only need to pay $41. Previously, my basic classic plan costs about $21. But without free incoming call, and only 200mins outgoing call and 360 free sms-es, I normally have to pay about $50 on average monthly. All thanks to some of u! (".)

Now isn't this a better deal? =D

Somebirdie please tell me where to get cheap & good soft rubber cover, and what and where to download free & useful apps! (",)

4 Six.Techines Senior 2007. (".)
Early dismissal: Chuan Chee

The party may be over, but our Six.2 Oh Ten! spirits shall live on. =D

Thank you everybirdie for giving me a very enjoyable time at the chalet! It's really the company that counts. Hope u peepo had enjoyed yourselves that day too. (".) Every effort and time spent organising the event are deinitely well-worth it. ^_^

I believe I won't be seeing many of u at the chalet, if there's ever gonna be one, next year. With everyone becoming more distant with one another and everyone occupied by your sec schs' camps, this might just be the first and the last.

Cherish the memories we had together, coz the same will never return again... (",)

"Guess The Blog URL" Contest (",)

As some of u may already know, I am 'repeating' P6 while all of u are promoted to Sec 1 next year... =(

U can only understand my feelings when u have to restart, say, your MapleStory from scratch after having already attained Level 62. (Alicia may be able to empathise with this the most) ("!)

Some days ago, I was still pondering hard over the URL for the blog of my new class in 20Eleven. Yesterday, the inspiration finally came from one remark by Chie Yi. (".)

Above is a picture-hint to the new URL. Guess it and proceed to the new blog and drop a line with your name in the new chatbox. I have already taken the first msg of the blog! Who will be the next? =D

First person to guess the URL correctly will get a chicky-wings treat @ Ikea Tampines! ^_^

Before I forget! The new URL follows the same pattern as all the three class blogs that I have. Now, isn't this way too easy for u? =O

Contest starts now! Get cracking right away! (",)

The end of your primary school education signifies a new beginning in your academic pursuits in the secondary schools. To those who have done well, continue to build on this sound foundation. While I hope that those who may not have performed up to expectations to persevere and not be disheartened.

There's still a long way to go. =)
